JSG- Jerusalem skater girls competition 2018 -

It was our third annual competition, in cooperation with the Jerusalem Municipality.

This is the only competition in Israel that dedicated specifically to women’s skateboarding – by girls, for girls.

Our goal is to raise awareness of the girls' community in our scene, by giving girls and women the feeling that they can do it, that they are free, that they belong.  By giving girls the confidence they need to do what they dare and expose more girls to skateboarding and raise the level.

The competition took place at the Jerusalem skatepark on May 21 st.

Growing up with the internet in a diverse and historic country, the youth captured in the director’s journey includes the Arab Trap Rappers PNGWNG CRU, the Jerusalem Skater Girls (J.S.G.), and clubgoers at a heady, pulsating night in Tel Aviv. “You are seeing these people come together not only to show their appreciation for the sound that is raising them, but are also creatively beginning to interpret it in their own way,” the filmmaker explains.

Skating, rapping, and partying become an outlet for self-expression beneath the region’s fierce sun and amidst its political complexities. London-based Lappin continues: “Originally, th...

Two crews of skater girls riding in the big city - Tel Aviv

This past August, a group of skater girls from Germany came to meet our JSG –Jerusalem Skater Girls crew, as part of the cooperation between Adidas Originals and Girls Are Awesome. Because, you know – girls are awesome.

We rode around the streets of Tel Aviv for two full days with a production and film crew, led by Laura Kaczmerek – a skater and photographer – and her friends from Germany. We skated with them, had some great food, hung out and visited some spectacular spots – some of which we had never heard of before!

The bond between the two crews was immediate and amazin...

The boys are fine with girl skaters – its society in general that doesn't always accept us - the Jerusalem skyscrapers dazzle the streets of the capital. The conditions for admission to the group are simple – be a girl, be a skater, love the flow.  It really doesn't matter is you're religious, secular, religious, Jewish, Moslem or Christian, young or old.  The main thing is love of skateboarding, its culture and life style.

This was part of a short docu series that exposes the colorful mosaic that forms the Israeli society from the workshop of KAN

The "Attraction" water park, at Kalia Beach on the Dead Sea - the lowest place on earth! - was abandoned years ago, but once upon a time it was a spectacular and enjoyable water park. I remember as a child I spent several times enjoying the huge slides and the wave pool.

Today, 15 years later, I return to the water park that went bankrupt and was abandoned, only to discover a Skateboarding paradise! When you reach the place you can't avoid the colorful appearance of the slides combined with the sand, thorns, cracks and aridity that characterizes the Dead Sea.

We got there with five skater girls and a photography crew: Paola, Royal...

JSG organized our first by girls, for girls competition in 2016.  This year we decided to go next lever, organizing a bigger and more professional competition , in cooperation with and support of the Jerusalem Municipality.

The event took place during the Passover spring break, at the Liberty Bell Skate Park in Jerusalem.  Skater guys and girls came from all over the country, and although it rained periodically, forcing breaks every now and then, the stoke was high.

So what went down at the event?

U15 and adult run, for girls and for boys.  The fantastic DJ Flow Nevo spun the tunes, and even the rain couldn't through him off his gam...

The heat and humidity will stay with us for a while longer, but the little boys and girls will soon return to school, and the streets will return to being our own. We decided to close out the summer this time .. a little differently and of course with a lot of style.

Let's just say - high heels meet wheels and a sidewalk. We will write all kinds of words: skateboard, stoke, vibes; lifestyle, movement; love, friendship and community; the essence of freedom: with a wooden ramp in the middle of the Alliance building patio compliments of Rick Munitz and Rom Maor the J.B.G leading us in women's breakdance, DJ red bezz J.Lionz, art skat...
